Spamalot: Setting and Adaptions Setting: The play takes place during the Medieval Period in England. Here is an example of the set: Recent Adaptions The Movie which the musical was based off of, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, premiered in 1975. The book the film was made a parody of is The Arthurian Legends, which tell the tales and myths of the famous King Arthur.

Spamalot: Characters and Costumes Main Characters: King Arthur, Sir Robin, Sir Lancelot, and The Lady of the Lake. King Arthur is the king of England. He is a funny man, who  is on a quest to form the Knights of the Round Table and find the Holy Grail. Sir Lancelot is a Knight of the Round Table. He is an extremely violent man who fights alongside King Arthur and helps him upon his quest. Sir Robin is a Knight of the Round Table. He is a coward, and he only joined the knights upon their quest for the singing and dancing. The Lady of the Lake possesses mystical powers. She is strong, beautiful, and a diva. Spamalot: Summary Spamalot first premiered in 2004. The musical instantly became a comedic classic because of its silliness and willingness to make people laugh. Spamalot was “lovingly ripped off” from the comedy film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Summary: Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur’s quest to find the Holy Grail. Inspired by the classic comedy film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail . The musical diverts a bit from more traditional versions of the legend. Instead, Spamalot features shenanigans including a line of beautiful dancing girls, flatulent Frenchmen, and killer rabbits. Outside, there is plague with a fifty percent chance of pestilence and famine. Throughout the show, Arthur, traveling with his servant Patsy, recruits several knights to accompany him on his quest, including Sir Bedevere, Sir Robin, Sir Lancelot, and Sir Galahad.
